Health and Safety Manager Overview
We are working with a nationwide UK retailer specialising in clothing and textiles, across 1,000 stores, who are keen to recruit a Health and Safety Manager.
The Health & Safety Manager will report directly to the Group Company Secretary, and will be predominantly field based, supporting multiple retail brands across the business.
Health and Safety Manager Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing guidance, support, and training on health and safety matters across all areas and levels of the organisation. The role includes conducting approximately 70 site audits annually, primarily within retail stores, but also across distribution centres and office locations.
You will act as the main point of contact for external bodies such as Environmental Health Officers, Fire Authorities, and other regulatory agencies. The role also involves investigating incidents and accidents, as well as contributing to the development and review of risk assessments and safe working practices.
Technical requirements:
- Strong understanding of current health and safety legislation
- Membership of IOSH
- NEBOSH Certificate (or equivalent qualification)

- Self-motivated with effective report writing abilities
- Practical and commercially aware approach to health and safety
- Confident delivering training on health and safety topics
- Ability to implement effective safety solutions within a business environment

Additional Information
Experience within retail or distribution environments is desirable, though candidates from other sectors will also be considered. Ideally, applicants will have at least two years’ post-qualification experience, or relevant retail/warehousing experience combined with appropriate health and safety qualifications.
This is a full-time, permanent position. The role requires regular travel, including overnight stays several times per week, and a full UK driving licence is essential.
