Assistant Merchandiser – Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Merchandiser to join a growing Marketplace team within a well-established retail business. The successful candidate will take ownership of designated Marketplace and Concessions accounts, supporting day-to-day trading, performance analysis, stock management and product onboarding across key retail channels.
Working closely with internal teams and external marketplace partners, this role will provide excellent exposure across trading, merchandising, data analysis and account management within a fast-paced commercial environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Taking ownership of the day-to-day trading and merchandising of designated Marketplace and Concessions accounts, working closely with key EU-based platforms to drive sales, availability and stock performance.
- Analysing sales, stock, availability, returns and sell-through data to identify risks, opportunities and recommended trading actions.
- Producing regular trading and marketplace performance reports, highlighting sales performance, returns, markdown activity, stock health, bestsellers, slow sellers and commercial opportunities.
- Preparing accurate data and clear analysis to support seasonal planning, future buys, forecasting, range reviews, trading meetings and marketplace reporting.
- Maintaining accurate merchandising trackers, range plans, stock files, critical paths and partner documentation.
- Monitoring stock availability and inventory health across marketplace channels, escalating risks and recommending actions to maximise sales opportunities.
- Working closely with Merchandising, Supply Chain and other cross-functional teams on critical path management, delivery updates, intake visibility and stock movement communications.
- Coordinating product onboarding, launches and ongoing marketplace maintenance, ensuring product data, pricing, listings, attributes and account information are accurate and up to date.
- Monitoring marketplace product status and launch performance, proactively resolving issues that may impact product visibility, availability or sales.
- Investigating and resolving trading and operational issues, including product listing errors, pricing discrepancies, stock availability issues, EAN/barcode queries, imagery concerns and partner platform rejections.
- Building and maintaining effective relationships with internal stakeholders and external marketplace partners, ensuring timely communication of trading performance, launches, stock risks and operational priorities.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience within retail merchandising, ideally with 2+ years’ experience in a similar role.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales data, trends and commercial performance.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables and XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP.
- Experience of retail trading, stock management and critical path management.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Confident communicator with the ability to build strong working relationships with internal teams and external partners.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a fast-paced team environment.
- Experience working cross-functionally with teams such as Merchandising and Supply Chain.
- Commercially aware, proactive and solutions-focused, with the ability to identify opportunities and resolve issues effectively.
- A bachelor’s degree in business, Merchandising or a related field is preferred.
